Family fun...

Every time someone asks me what my favorite season is, I have a really hard time narrowing it down to just one. Really, all of the four seasons are my favorite…..that’s why we live in Michigan! :O) But, if I really only had to pick one, it would be summer. Sometimes I complain about how incredibly busy our summers get, but really wouldn’t change anything about it. Our busy-ness means that we are out and about, doing the things that we love to do as a family, and that is just plain fun!!!

Last weekend Mike took the kids out to his office for an annual fishing contest. The kids were thrilled about it and I was so excited for Mike to have this one-on-one time with the kids. They all loaded up in the car last Saturday morning and set off for an adventure. Sure enough, when they got home Marina couldn’t tell me fast enough about all of the fish that she caught (8 blue gills!), the zebra puppet that she won, the picnic lunch that they had, etc. When Alexander walked up and I asked if he had fun, he answered, “no!” Mike said that they caught their very first fish and before it was even out of the water Alexander went running away and said he was all done! Hmmmm….Mike will have to work on “toughening” him up a bit! :O)

And this weekend was the start of our camping trips for the summer. We visited a campground that we’ve stayed at in the past, since we knew they had lots for the kids to do and it isn’t so far away. We all had a great time, the weather was perfect and we hated to pack up and come home! The kids did really, really well and were busy, busy, busy all day long! We swam a few times, played on the playground a lot and enjoyed the Strawberry festival celebrations that the campground had going on this weekend. They had carnival type games for the kids Saturday morning and strawberry shortcake for everyone Saturday evening. There was a 4 year old little boy camping next to us that the kids really played well with. It was really a great weekend!






This week starts Vacation Bible School for Marina. Instead of driving her to Lansing every day for VBS at our church, we decided to sign her up for VBS at the church where she went to preschool. She’s very excited about it and anxious to see some of her preschool friends again! Mike will be taking a few trips these next few weeks. Other than that, it’s just getting through the week in preparation for those busy weekends!
