We had a wonderful week with Mike's parents and loved having them here for a visit. We kept busy all week just doing the normal, everyday "stuff." School, preschool, ballet, soccer, gymnastics, Kindermusik, etc. We did also manage to sneak in some shopping! Mike's dad worked on our new deck ALL week long. I think it might have become a bit bigger of a project than Mike had orginally anticipated, but it is looking great, although not quite finished yet. Here is a picture of our work in progress. The railings are now complete all the way around the top part of the deck and it looks great. We have the decking to finish and the bottom portions of the posts to wrap. I'm sure Mike will be working on that this week and next until it's all done.
While Mike's parents were here we decided to do a mini birthday party for Alexander so they could watch him open the gifts from them and so they could also see him use a gift from them! They bought him a Lightning McQueen bike and Alexander was SO excited! He hopped right on it that night and is doing a great job with it so far. It's quite a bit bigger than his other bike, so it might take him some time. He does ride it with the training wheels off.
On Friday we all packed up and headed to the North Georgia mountains. We rented a cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains for the long holiday weekend and greatly enjoyed the R & R there. The cabin was beautiful and the scenery even moreso! Here is a picture of the outside of the cabin and the view that went with it....
On Saturday we took Marina and Alexander horseback riding. This also happened to be our 11th wedding anniversary! The four of us had a ton of fun and the smiles and laughter coming from the kids made the whole trip worthwhile! Alexander rode with our guide and Marina was on her own horse but led by the guide with a rope. To add some extra excitement....Marina's horse was named Tiara. I promise you we did not set this up for her, but that was totally icing on the cake for her! :O)
This was one of the views of the mountains from horseback riding. At one point we could see the mountains in Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina all at the same time. Beautiful!
On Sunday we spent the morning and early afternoon hiking in Blue Ridge. We found a remote hiking trail that took us to a swinging bridge over the Toccoa River. The hike was beautiful and the bridge was really fun! We all really enjoyed it. 
And on Monday we all went on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. The train ride was about an hour each way, with a 2 hour stop in a city that borders the state of Tennessee. Again, the scenery was beautiful and the ride was very enjoyable. I think Xavier may have liked the train ride more than anyone else. He was SO excited!

Mike's parents are on their way back to Michigan today and we pray for safe travels for them. Mom and Dad....THANK YOU for all of your hard work on the deck last week and for spending time with us in the mountains. We really, really enjoyed it and especially having that time with you!

Looks like a lot of fun was had by all. Thanks for the update...I was wondering about your trip! Can't wait to see the deck all done...hopefully in person sooner rather than later. Enjoy the great weather.
