So, one year ago today we boarded a plane in Moscow and headed West. We flew 12 ½ loooong hours from Moscow to Atlanta and had a short layover in Atlanta before completing our journey into Detroit. The kids did remarkably well on both flights, but especially the long haul over the ocean. It was me (Kristen!) who was having trouble settling in, getting comfortable and relaxing. I was just ready to be HOME! :O)

We were greeted in Detroit by my parents, my grandma and my aunt and uncle, and of course, Mike’s parents were traveling with us. It was a great homecoming and Alexander was not overwhelmed at all. He was full of smiles, and I’m quite sure captured the hearts of the entire family that very day! And he’s been smiling ever since. The past year has had some rough spots, but has really been absolutely amazing. We are so incredibly blessed with our two children!

Alexander has been growing and developing since his feet hit U.S. soil. He has grown 4 ½ inches , but has only gained 3-4 pounds. His development is right on target with his age group and his vocabulary is growing every day! He definitely is a chatter box! He is a great eater, a great sleeper and an absolute joy to parent! We are still learning the extreme differences between parenting girls and boys and enjoying every step of the way!
We so enjoy remembering our trips to Russia, the friends that we’ve met, the places that we’ve visited, the amazing orphanage workers who helped mold the children into who they are today, the outstanding staff that we worked with to complete our adoptions and the culture that we experienced and hope to share with our kids some day. We feel incredibly blessed and definitely honored to have grown our family through adoption. So, on this day one year ago, one journey was ending and a new one just beginning. Our adoption journey ended, but it really was just the beginning of one truly amazing journey! The journey of our family!
Thanks for sticking with us over the past year. I know I keep repeating how blessed I feel to have the privilege to parent these 2 amazing children, but I still find myself in awe of the mighty works of God!
Happy homecoming day, Alexander! Thank you for bringing so much joy, love and laughter into our family! We love you!
