Merry (Russian!) Christmas! Tomorrow begins the big Christmas celebration in Russia. The Russian Orthodox Church still observes Christmas and Easter according to the pre-revolutionary calendar, which means their Christmas celebration takes place on January 7th. We like to celebrate this day with our kids, since this is part of their heritage. Since we are having a birthday party for the 4 family members with January birthdays at our house tomorrow, we chose to have our Russian dish for dinner tonight. We have a small Russian gift for each of the kids to open tomorrow and I made a traditional Russian pastry to have along with our birthday cake.
Amazingly enough, our Christmas tree has made it this far! The needles are still hanging on, so we were able to keep it up through the Russian Christmas. Next week will be busy getting Christmas decorations taken down and put away. I know the kids will be very disappointed!
If you don't mind me asking....would you all say a prayer for the orphaned children in Russia tomorrow. When most Russians will gather to join in Christmas celebration with their families, there will be thousands and thousands of children who will consider tomorrow just another day. Please join me in praying that ALL of those precious children find loving homes.
